Blue Owl Boutique

Looking for new Kappa letters for your desk? A cute canvas for your Kappa sister? Check out the Blue Owl Boutique.

We invite your association, chapter or house board to participate by providing items to sell at the Blue Owl Boutique. For those participating, a 15% administrative fee will be taken and the remainder of your total sales will go back to your chapter, association or House Board. For individuals participating, we ask that a pre-established percentage of your individual total sales be donated to a Kappa alumnae association, chapter, House Board or the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.

If you are interested in participating as a vendor, please read the FAQs below and send this inventory sheet to Brett Skaugstad Watson, Blue Owl Boutique Chairman, at blueowlboutique@kappa.org.

Blue Owl Boutique FAQs:

Q: Why should I participate?

A: The Blue Owl Boutique is a unique, affordable shopping experience for all who attend Convention. In addition, it’s a wonderful way to earn extra funds. Many associations use their proceeds from Blue Owl Boutique to send members to future Conventions or for philanthropic efforts.

Q: Are there costs or fees associated with participation? Who usually participates?

A: Participation is free. However, 15% of each group's total sales will go back to the Fraternity as an administrative fee. Groups that may participate:

  • Alumnae associations
  • Chapters
  • House Boards
  • Individuals: We ask that individuals donate a minimum of 10% to an alumnae association, chapter, House Board, or the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation in addition to the 15% administrative fee.

Q: What types of items sell the best?

A: Think Kappa: owls, keys and fleurs-de-lis are always popular! Paper products, ornaments, cookie cutters, jewelry, and other portable items are hits because they are easy to transport in a suitcase or carry-on bag. We permit individuals and groups to sell items at the Blue Owl Boutique during Convention without being licensed. As long as marketing or selling of items outside of Convention does not occur, you are permitted to utilize Kappa marks, including Kappa, KKG, Kappa Kappa Gamma, etc.

Q: Can we still participate if we are not sending a delegate to Convention?

A: Yes. Please make arrangements with the Blue Owl Boutique Chairman or select someone from your district, association, or House Board to be responsible for the merchandise (e.g., dropping items off and picking up any leftovers) at Convention. We can also ship items back to your group, but the shipping costs will be deducted from your proceeds.

Q: Do you reimburse for lost or stolen items?

A: No, the Fraternity is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Q: Are we required to help staff the Blue Owl Boutique?

A: The Blue Owl Boutique is led by the Blue Owl Boutique Chairman, Blue Owl Boutique Assistant Chairman, and a local liaison. Local volunteers help staff the Blue Owl Boutique throughout the week. However, we highly encourage you to stop by frequently to shop and spread the word to others about the amazing items the Blue Owl Boutique has to offer!

Q: How do we price our items?

A: Generally speaking, inexpensive items sell best. However, please keep in mind that this is a money-making opportunity and you should price to ensure a profit. We will provide additional information regarding price tags after your form is received.

Q: How much inventory should we plan to bring?

A: Historically, we have never sold more than 100 of any single item, so please limit your quantities. Storage for items is minimal because we attempt to provide all participants with equal spaces.

Q: When should we expect to receive our check from the proceeds of our sales?

A: Checks will be mailed from Kappa Kappa Gamma Headquarters after the close of Convention.

Q: What is our next step?

A: Start brainstorming ideas, complete the Inventory Sheet, and email it to the Blue Owl Boutique Chairman by June 1.
